2020

Chair:
Laura Dietz, Ph.D., is a clinical and developmental psychologist whose research focuses on the study of family risk factors for depression and the development of psychosocial interventions for mood disorders in youths. Dr. Dietz completed her graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh, a predoctoral internship at Children’s Memorial Hospital, Feinberg School of Medicine, in Chicago, IL, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. For the past 10 years, Dr. Dietz has developed, manualized, and tested the efficacy and putative treatment mechanisms of Family Based Interpersonal Psychotherapy (FB-IPT) for Depressed Preadolescents. She is an Associate Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling at the University of Pittsburgh, and trains clinicians in Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depressed Adolescents (IPT-A) and FB-IPT.

Chair Elect:
Kalina Babeva, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist who specializes in the treatment of depression and self-harm behavior in adolescents at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She is also affiliated with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the UCLA-Duke Center for Trauma-Informed Adolescent Suicide, Self-Harm, and Substance Treatment and Prevention, a NCTSN Category II Center. Dr. Babeva completed her graduate work at the University of Southern California (USC) followed by predoctoral internship and postdoctoral training at UCLA. Her research is dedicated to the assessment, prevention, and treatment of suicidality and self-harm in adolescents, with a special focus on brief/urgent care interventions and increased parental involvement. Lastly, Dr. Babeva is involved in the dissemination of evidence-based care through trainings of mental health professionals, psychiatry residents and fellows, and graduate students.

Treasurer:
Kristin Wolfe, MRC, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral fellow at Cadence Child and Adolescent Therapy in Kirkland Washington. She completed both her Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling (MRC) and her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Kristin has extensive experience working in both inpatient and outpatient settings with adolescents struggling with depression and suicidal ideation. Her research interests are in utilizing technology for suicide prevention in adolescents.

Samuel Seidman, B.A., received his BA in psychology from Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Currently he Is a second year PhD student at Case Western Reserve University working with Dr. Arin Connell as part of the Relationships, Emotions, & Family lab. He recently defended his master’s thesis examining the links between maternal depression and adolescent affective processing using EEG. His primary research interests include intergenerational transmission of depression, neuroaffective dysregulation, and long-term outcomes for youth prevention programs.


Student Representatives:
Laura Frazee, MS, is a fourth year clinical psychology doctoral candidate at UT Southwestern. She received her bachelors in Psychology with a minor in Spanish from Clemson University and went on to receive a masters from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. During that time, she also worked as a research assistant at a local children’s hospital. She has worked at an intensive outpatient program for suicidal teens during her internship and is working on developing a new scale to measure cognitions related to suicide ideation in teens for her dissertation. She has previously served as the student representative for this SIG and is excited to continue in this position.

Alexandra Moorehead, B.S., is a third-year doctoral candidate at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW). She received her Bachelor of Science in psychology and philosophy from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, she went on to serve as the research coordinator for a NIMH R34 examining a brief intervention for suicide risk reduction in adolescents. Additionally, she helped to pilot a community mental health program to disseminate a suicide intensive outpatient program for adolescents. She completed her practicum at a juvenile detention center and began her research in promoting lethal means safety with suicidal adolescents.
