V. Robin Weersing, PhD

will give our keynote address at our annual SIG meeting this year!

Dr. Weersing is the director of the Child and Adolescent
Anxiety and Mood Program (ChAAMP) at San Diego State
University (SDSU) and a professor in the joint doctoral program in clinical psychology at SDSU and UC San Diego. She holds honorary appointments in Child Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh and the Yale University School of Medicine. Her research centers on the development of efficient and effective interventions for anxiety, depression, and somatic distress in children and adolescents. Dr. Weersing and her lab have attempted to probe the effectiveness of usual community care for internalizing youth, to understand the effects of established evidence-based interventions for these conditions when tested in
the settings and samples of active healthcare practice, and to develop novel treatments for internalizing youths focusing on core transdiagnostic mechanisms of action that may be robust to dissemination. In addition to her empirical and theoretical papers in these areas, Dr. Weersing is an author of five psychosocial treatment and prevention manuals for youth internalizing disorders, all of which have been tested in randomized trials with families drawn from community clinical settings, and she has served as an expert consultant on the development of practice guidelines for the screening and treatment of adolescent depression in primary care. Her program of work has been acknowledged with numerous awards and fellowships including recognition from the Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research, and the William T. Grant Foundation.
